CAWGW Consultation Response to Animal Licensing
Thursday 4th April 2024
CAWGW has submitted its evidence to the Welsh Government’s consultation on the licensing of animal welfare establishments, activities and exhibits, which was launched in December 2023.
What is the purpose of the consultation?
The Welsh Government would like to develop a national model for regulating animal welfare. The introduction of a statutory licensing scheme would focus on animal establishments, animal activities, animal exhibits, and greyhounds which are currently unlicensed or minimally regulated. This would set minimum standards that all license holders must comply with.
Following its call for evidence to Local Authorities, the Third Sector and other interested agencies, this consultation sought public opinion to support greater regulation.
CAWGW has submitted its joint consultation response with its members Blue Cross, Dogs Trust, Cats Protection, PDSA, The Kennel Club, Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, and its associate member, The Dog Breeding Reform Group, having signed up to this response.
The full response is available here.
What happens now?
The Welsh Government will soon publish a report summarising the consultation results and setting out the proposed move forward. More information on the consultation is available here.
